Meet Dr. Myles at Institute of Spinal Disorders

Dr. Helm is a specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R), or a physiatrist. He grew up in Arlington, Texas and graduated Magna cum laude from Texas A&M University. He is a proud second generation physician. Dr. Helm attended medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and completed an internship in internal medicine at the University of Texas Tech Health Science Center in Amarillo. His primary residency in PM&R was at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where he served as chief resident.

For the past six years, Dr Helm has been a part of a diverse multidisciplinary orthopaedic and spine medical practice in Decatur, Texas. His areas of expertise include electrodiagnostic medicine (EMG, nerve conduction studies), nonsurgical management of spinal disorders, general and intervential pain management and management of various neuropathic pain syndromes, general neuropathies and musculoskeletal disorders. Dr. Helmʼs current areas of interest include the emerging science of stem cell research and the regeneration of muscle, nerve, and cartilage tissue. He served as the medical director of Wise Regional Hospital Acute Rehabilitation Unit until 2012. Dr. Helm believes strongly in an interdisciplinary team approach concept to spine and musculoskeletal medicine.
